KANAZAWA UNIVERSITY EXCHANGE PROGRAM

KANAZAWA UNIVERSITY EXCHANGE PROGRAM

These programs are designed for students enrolled at institutions that have an exchange agreement with Kanazawa University* who intend to study at Kanazawa University for a period of not less than six months to not more than one year. While remaining enrolled at their home institutions, such students may study in a non-degree program at Kanazawa University for the purposes of experiencing a foreign culture, learning practical Japanese, taking credited classes, or participating in independent research under the guidance of a supervisor.

This program aims to provide students from overseas with an opportunity to improve their proficiency in the Japanese language and to deepen their understanding of Japanese culture and society. The program consists of upperintermediate to advanced Japanese language courses (5 lectures per week), cultural courses examining not only present day Japanese society and culture but also the rich traditional culture of Kanazawa (3 lectures per week), a joint research project on multiple languages and cultures with Japanese students (1 lecture per week) and a completion research project on subjects related to Japan (1 lecture per week). This is a one-year program conducted solely in Japanese.

Students of this program attend regular curriculum classes of Kanazawa University and/or study in their major field(s) at the graduate school. Since classes are given in Japanese and English, high-level proficiency in Japanese or English is required in order to attend classes. Special Auditormust take one or more courses offered at the School to which they belong (undergraduate level) or those of their major (graduate level). Students of this program can also take courses on the Japanese language and on Japanese culture and society that are provided by the Organization of Global Affairs and earn credits with these courses. This program does not provide guidance and advice on graduation, Master’s and Doctor’s theses for students in their home institution.

Students conduct research based on their individual purpose for studying at Kanazawa University while taking classes on major subjects given in Japanese or English. Students can also take courses on the Japanese language and on Japanese culture and society that are provided by the Organization of Global Affairs
