The Faculty of Graduate Studies offers awards to new students through the annual Entrance Competition.

These scholarships were established to attract and retain the best and brightest future leaders from around the world in support of the University of Calgary’s Eyes High vision of becoming one of the top five research universities in Canada.

Eligibility

Doctoral Recruitment scholarships adjudicated through the Entrance Competition are exempt from the Award Regulation unless otherwise stated in the scholarship terms of reference.

Application

The 2020 Entrance Competition opens November 1. 

You can apply for internal awards using our online scholarship application.

  1. Go to your Student Centre and click the link Apply for Graduate Funding in the Financial Aid section of your home screen.
  2. Select the Graduate Award Competition Application.

Only one application is required regardless of the number of awards you are applying for. APPLY HERE.

For awards administered through the Faculty of Graduate Studies, for the full award tenure

You should

  • Be registered as a graduate student at the University of Calgary (including Cotutelle students)
  • Have tuition and general fees as a graduate student at the University of Calgary (including Cotutelle students). Learn more about registration.
  • Meet the terms of reference of the award.
  • Accept the terms and conditions of the award and the Graduate Award Regulation.

You should not

  • Be fully funded by a third party sponsor except when applying for the Izaak Walton Killam Doctoral Scholarship.
  • Hold or start full-time (30 hours or more per week) employment during the tenure of the award. However, students registered in a program structured for full-time employees are eligible to hold program recommended awards.
  • Hold or start employment when registered as a full-time student involving 612 or more hours per year when the total value of the award (or combination of awards) is equal to or greater than $15,000 (unless otherwise specified by the external granting agency). This annual hourly employment limit includes Graduate Assistant Teaching (GAT) and Graduate Assistant Non-Teaching GA(N)T work hours.
