UNICEF Afganistan Volunteering Program : Youth and Adolescents Development Officer

 


Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

Under the direct supervision of Youth and Adolescent Development Specialist, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

  1. Supports to programme development and planning
  • Supports planning and implementation of Spotlight Initiative Programme- focusing on adolescent component
  • Participates throughout the process of planning and preparation to provide input, advice and operational support on the integration of frameworks that promote adolescent development and participation and to ensure that crosscutting issues such as gender, disabilities, the rights of minority and marginalized groups are considered and integrated within the country programmes and projects.
  • Assists in preparation of relevant documentations for programme review and approval.

  1. Programme management, monitoring and delivery of results
  • Participates in monitoring and evaluation exercises, programme mid-year and end-year reviews with government and counterparts to assess progress and to determine required action/interventions to achieve results for all adolescent programming component with a special focus on the Spotlight initiative.
  • Actively monitors adolescent development programmes/projects through field visits, surveys and/or exchange of information with partners/stakeholders to assess progress, identify bottlenecks, and take timely decisions to resolve issues and/or refer to relevant officials for timely resolution.
  • Prepares monitoring reports to identify gaps, strengths/weaknesses in programme and management, identify lessons learned and use knowledge gained for development planning and timely intervention to achieve goals.

  1. Technical and operational support to programme implementation
  • Participates in programme meetings to provide technical and operational information, advice and support.
  • Assists in drafting of relevant briefs and other strategic programme materials for management use, information and/or consideration.

  1. Networking and partnership building
  • Builds and sustains effective close working partnerships with relevant government counterparts, implementing partners and Adolescents and Youth Networks (AYN), Multi-purpose Adolescent Group (MAG) through active networking and effective communication to build capacity, exchange knowledge and to reinforce cooperation to achieve sustainable and broad results on adolescent development and participation initiatives.
  1. Innovation and knowledge management
  • Applies innovative approaches and good practices on adolescent development and participation to build the capacity of partners and stakeholders and to support the implementation and delivery of concrete and sustainable programme results.
  • Keeps abreast, research, benchmark and implement best practices on adolescent development and participation.
  • Prepares human-interest stories and case studies and shares widely with stakeholders and regional office.

Furthermore, UN Youth Volunteers are required to:

  • Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);
  • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country.
  • Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities.
  • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.
  • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly arrived UN Youth Volunteers.
  • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.
 Bachelor degree or equivalent
  • A first university degree in anthropology, Social Sciences, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Education, or another Human Development related field and an advanced university degree in a relevant field is required.

  • At least two years of professional work experience at national level in the field of adolescents programming. Experience in Youth and Adolescent Development Programming, Gender, Child Protection and Education is required. Additional, emphasis on working with and for young people, program guidance, technical support, networking and partnerships is a strong asset
  • Good interpersonal, networking and communication skills.
  • Willingness to contribute and work as part of a team.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English and local languages is required.
  • Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded.
  • Computer skills (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, social media, and others).
  • English(Mandatory), Level - Working Knowledge
 Youth and sports

Experience in Youth and Adolescent Development Programming, Gender, Child Protection and Education is required.
