The German Embassy in Washington is seeking to fill as soon as possible a permanent part-time position (20 hours/week) for a telephone operator and assistant in the Embassy’s Administration 

Duties and Responsibilities include:

1. Operate telephone switchboard, incl. providing simple information to phone inquiries in German and English and accepting and transferring internal and external calls 

2. Handle vehicle matters, such as vehicle registration and insurance issues 

3. Support administration on HR issues

4. Manage official inventories 

5. Support retired/former local Embassy employees

6. Issue and administer parking IDs 

Qualifications and Requirements:

1. Substantial office experience 
2. Good spoken and written English and German language skills
3. Good IT skills (Word, Excel, Open Office, internet etc.)
4. Motivation and ability to work in a team
5. Loyalty and confidentiality
6. Polite and professional conduct
7. Poise
8. bility to work under pressure and good organizational skills Contract conditions and compensation are based on local law, per the standard employment 
agreement for nondiplomatic staff at the German foreign missions in the U.S., and on the corresponding pay scale. Monthly pay is based on a 20-hour week; overtime is additionally paid. Applicants who are not U.S. citizens must have a valid work permit. A sponsorship by the Embassy is 
not possible.

Following selection, the successful candidate must demonstrate good health (through a medical examination by the Embassy’s partner physician) prior to hiring. A personal background check and 
security clearance will also be carried out. Your readiness to assist in these procedures is assumed.
