General Conditions
By submitting the essay to ASEAN-IPR, the Author confirms to have read and agreed to these Terms and Conditions.
Eligibility
The competition is open to all citizens of ASEAN Member States aged between 18 until 35 (as per 18 November 2022).
The ASEAN-IPR encourages all citizens of ASEAN Member States to participate with no discrimination.
Entry specification and requirement
The theme of the essay is the Role of Youth in Forging and Fostering Peace in ASEAN. Authors can reflect from the past practices or future scenarios in the region and look at areas where the involvement of youth in the field of peacebuilding can be improved and elevated.
The essay should be submitted in English.
The Author should ensure there are no grammatical and spelling errors.
The word limit for the essay is between 1,000-1,500 words. Any essays under or exceedingly over the word limit will not qualify for consideration.
All of the ideas expressed in the essay must be original.
All references to the ideas, opinions, or theories of others must be acknowledged and referenced appropriately. Footnote text will not be counted as part of the word limit.
All forms of citation, both in-text and the reference page, should follow the APA 7th Edition Formatting Style.
The Author should beware and avoid any types of plagiarism which may result in disqualification.
How to enter
The essay should be submitted through completing an online form, accessible through the following link: bit.ly/PeaceEssaySubmission
The essay should be submitted in PDF File (.pdf).
Each individual can only submit one essay and there will be no alteration allowed after submission.
Up to three essays will be selected as the winners and may receive reward/token of remuneration.
Selection process
The initial selection process will be conducted by the ASEAN-IPR Secretariat and the ASEAN Youth Advocates Network (AYAN) to assess whether the submission meets the minimum requirements.
The ASEAN-IPR Secretariat will engage a panel of experts with relevant expertise. The criteria for the selection process will be discussed in consultation with the panel of experts.
The Top Three peace essays will be selected as the winners of this competition, with the possibility of up to three honourable mentions essays. These essays will be made available online for free access on the ASEAN-IPR Website and could also be posted on the Website’s Online Discussion Forum for further discussion and exchanges of ideas by the public.
Copyright, liability, and privacy
All related intellectual property and intellectual property rights arising belong to the author. Copyright of the submitted essay remains with the author.
By entering this competition, all essays license ASEAN-IPR a worldwide, royalty-free, irrevocable, and perpetual license to publish and use the essay on the ASEAN-IPR website, social media, or elsewhere in other mediums, such as audio-visual, public recitation, or hard-copy (i.e., print).
The essay submitted must not violate any laws of any country or infringe upon another party’s trademark, copyright, or other intellectual property rights. Content of the essay should also not contain any profanity or infringe another party’s dignity, honour, name or rights.
Submission to other competition and/or publications at any time during the period that the essays are being considered is not allowed. The essay will be automatically ineligible if it is under contract to any publisher or is in any other way liable to be made public.
By submitting the essay, the Author guarantees that the personal information provided in the registration form is accurate. Personal information will only be used in administering the competition and for related publicity purposes. By providing this information, the Author is giving irrevocable consent for it to be used for this purpose.
