About this job
Under the overall supervision of the Assistant Director General for Culture, the direct supervision of the Director of World Heritage Center, and in cooperation with the UNESCO Liaison Office in New York and the Chief of the Executive Office of the Culture Sector , the Individual Specialist will serve as technical advisor providing inputs on sustainable development projects and policy advocacy initiatives in the field of sustainable tourism and culture. In this context, coordination will need to be ensured with relevant services at UNESCO Headquarters and Field Offices.
Responsibility
- Provide technical assistance into the development and delivery of capacity-building activities in the framework of two upcoming projects to be launched in the course of 2023 in Saudi Arabia and Latin America and the Caribbean.
- Participate in the final conference of the SmartCulTour project entitled "Rethinking tourism through sustainable cultural tourism" on 23 and 24 May, in Belgium
- Expand and support the UNESCO Sustainable Travel Pledge with the Expedia Group including outreach to the hospitality sector and maintain partnership relations
- Provide liaison functions with UN General Assembly (UNGA) entities and New York-based stakeholders concerning the implementation of a UNGA strategy on Culture for Sustainable Development and the protection of cultural heritage
- Support resource mobilization and outreach for initiatives on tourism, culture and sustainable development
Qualification
- Advanced University degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in the field of culture, humanities, social sciences, international relations, public administration and management, international law, or any other related fields.
- At least 15 years of relevant professional experience in culture, sustainable tourism, international relations, or related fields and preferably at the international level.
- Familiarity with the work and general functioning of international organizations and/or the UN system.
- Experience in developing strategic initiatives and projects.
- Advanced analytical, coordination of projects in the field of sustainable tourism and partnership development skills.
- Strong diplomatic skills with excellent political awareness and understanding.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Good knowledge of the UNESCO Culture Programme and its Conventions.
- Knowledge of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
- Excellent knowledge (written and spoken) of English or French, and good knowledge of the other.
- A cover letter including a technical proposal indicating the approach/methodology to carry out the assignment, including availability to meet expected results or a proposed workplan with timeframe.
