About this fellowship
Every year, the Canon Foundation in Europe gives scholarships to 15 skilled European and Japanese researchers. European Fellows are supposed to go to Japan to do research, while Japanese Fellows are supposed to go to Europe to do their research.
Canon Foundation Fellowships are available for at least three months and can last up to a year.
We help in all areas of research. There are no rules or limits. People who want to apply don't need to be currently enrolled in school or working.
European Canon Fellows have the freedom to choose their host institutes and hosts in Japan. Japanese Canon Fellows are also allowed to have the same freedom when they come to visit Europe. You can apply for Canon Foundation Research Fellowships if the guest researcher and the host institution agree to work together and have a plan for their research.
Members of commercial, industrial, governmental, or professional organizations can also submit applications.
Eligibility
- Anyone from Europe can apply, including people from the UK, Israel, Turkey, Balkan, and Baltic countries.
- To apply to the Canon Foundation, you must have a Master's or PhD degree that was earned within the past ten years. We will also look at applicants who got their qualification over ten years ago if they give more information in their application.
- Please understand that applicants who are going to Europe or Japan for the first time will be given preference.
Application procedure
The next deadline to apply is on September 15, 2023. You can apply for programs that will start anytime between January and December 2024.
The Selection Committee will send an email with their final decision to applicants around December 2023.
We don't discuss decisions made on individual applications, and we get a lot of applicants, so if someone doesn't get a Fellowship, it doesn't mean they did something wrong.
We focus more on people who are planning to go to Europe or Japan rather than staying in the same place for a longer time.
You need to use our online form to apply. Once you sign up, you will be redirected to the form to apply.
