About the programme

The goal of the Programme is to spread the Polish language around the world by giving people who are interested in learning Polish or researching Polish culture the chance to study or do their research in Poland. The program is intended for students studying Polish language and literature, Polish studies, or Polish-related programs, which are often part of Slavic studies. It also targets scientists from foreign universities and research organizations who work in the fields of Polish language, culture, and knowledge about Poland.

Students

While staying at a Polish university, NAWA Scholarship Holders can explore their interest in Polish topics by taking part in lectures and classes as part of the chosen study program, doing research, working on scientific projects, gathering materials for their thesis or academic work, improving their Polish language skills, and using the resources available in libraries, universities, and archives.

As part of the program, students may take partial studies, which could be one or two semesters, or they may complete full second cycle studies. Applicants should select the university where they intend to study on their own. The subject the applicant has chosen to study should match the program of study offered at their home university. The applicant needs to get permission from the host university to study there, and if they are applying for full-time studies, they must also go through and pass the selection process at the university they choose.

Researchers

Under this Programme, researchers from foreign academic and research institutions can carry out research projects at Polish universities and scientific organizations. These projects can last between 3 and 12 months. The aim of these projects includes doing scientific research, which may involve working with Polish scientists, getting research materials or publishing scientific work, doing a postdoctoral internship, teaching at the host institution, or learning the Polish language intensively. The POLONISTA Programme fellowship could be given to people whose research is about topics like the Polish language, teaching Polish, literature, comparisons with other cultures, Polish culture, art, or history.
