The United Kingdom Mission to the United Nations in Geneva represents the interests and policies of the UK at the UN and is recruiting a highly motivated Team Coordinator based in the Human Rights/Political Team. This is a dynamic, diverse role where the jobholder will be responsible for the coordination (logistical, organisational) of the UK delegation during sessions of Human Rights Council (HRC) and Universal Periodic Review (UPR). The candidate will also oversee effective planning and support for UN meetings, management of documents and official correspondence, and arranging programmes for visiting Ministers and officials to human rights related meetings. The jobholder will gain a strong understanding of the functioning of the HRC, UPR Treaty Bodies and Special Procedure as well as the Geneva-based humanitarian and migration agencies by providing core organisational support to the Head of the Humanitarian and Migration team in the UK Mission.

Roles and responsibilities:

Coordination

  • Act as Team Coordinator during Human Rights Council and Universal Periodic Review sessions
  • Provide logistical support for meetings, such as room bookings for side events and meetings at the UN and the UK Mission including for the Permanent Representative and Deputy Permanent Representative
  • File management, including of UK statements and delegation packs for HRC and UPR sessions;

 

Organisation and administration

  • Provide core organisational and administrative support to the Head of Human Rights/Political team and Humanitarian and Migration team
  • Information and diary management, including overseeing timely responses to all human rights and humanitarian official communications, and maintaining a contacts database;
  • Assist the Head of Teams with managing the team budget where relevant;

 

Visits and events support

  • Act as the Team’s visits officer for human rights related visits of UK Ministers or Delegations including managing programmes, logistics and UN accreditation;
  • Organise events and receptions for the human rights team on a range of human rights/political priority areas for the UK

Meeting support

  • Assist with note taking and reporting from plenary meetings of the Human Rights Council (13 weeks per year), and plenary and NGO meetings relating to the Universal Periodic review (6+ weeks per year)
  • Assist with note taking and reporting from plenary meetings of Geneva-based humanitarian and migration agencies, and engagement between Member States and civil society stakeholders

 

  • Fluency at C1 level (oral and written) in English
  • At least two years of working experience in a support/administrative role
  • Experience managing and organising information and documents
  • Strong administration and organisational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work at pace, often under pressure and with resilience
  • Experience of working in a team
  • Relevant education or practical training
  • Multilateral/international experience, including from Geneva, would be an advantage
  • Interest in human rights and humanitarian issues
  • Working level in French
