On August 6, 2017, the Government of Canada launched the Canada-ASEAN Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development (SEED) program. These programs focus on areas that help achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. SEED also helps build stronger connections between people in Canada and the Indo-Pacific region. 4. Canada China Scholarship
The Canada-China Scholars’ Exchange Program (CCSEP) is Canada’s oldest bilateral scholarship initiative. Started in 1973 by then Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau and Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai, this respected program has promoted mutual understanding, academic work together, and cultural sharing for more than 50 years. The CCSEP helps Chinese scholars and professionals learn more about Canada. Scholarships are usually given for research periods lasting between 4 and 12 months in Canada, but they do not require signing up as full-time students at a Canadian university. Instead, recipients are invited as visiting scholars. Those who are accepted will travel to Canada before the end of February 2026 to start their program.
5. The Canadian International Development Scholarship
The Canadian International Development Scholarships 2030 (BCDI 2030) program offers high-quality education and training in Canada, including vocational and technical programs. Its goal is to improve access to higher education and help build social and economic growth in the 26 countries that are part of the BCDI 2030 initiative. This eight-year program, running from 2022 to 2030, is supported by Global Affairs Canada and is designed to match the specific needs of each partner country. It focuses on areas that align with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The main aim of the program is to reduce inequality and help participants and their communities improve their quality of life. Around 600 scholars from these partner countries will receive scholarships to study and train in Canada, with at least 51% of them being women. The BCDI 2030 Scholars will gain skills, knowledge, and experience that will help them succeed in their careers and become leaders in their communities. After returning home, they will work to support the social and economic progress of their countries.
6. OAS
The Organization of American States (OAS) manages a multilateral scholarship program for all its member countries. This program offers awards to students from other OAS member nations who want to pursue graduate studies or research in Canada. OAS also provides scholarships for graduate students from one member country to study in another OAS member country. Canada encourages qualified students to apply for these scholarships to take advantage of its academic programs. Students interested in applying should submit their applications directly to the National Liaison Agency (ONE) in their home country that handles the OAS program.
