About Manaaki New Zealand Scholarship
Manaaki New Zealand Scholarships help create prosperity, security, and sustainable growth in partner countries while building lasting connections between scholars and Aotearoa New Zealand and the future leaders of those countries. Scholars who receive a Manaaki New Zealand Scholarship form lifelong bonds with each other and with New Zealand, while earning a globally respected education, experiencing authentic New Zealand culture, and gaining the skills needed to help their countries reach their full potential. The Manaaki New Zealand Scholarship Programme aims to strengthen the dignity and value of both partner countries and Aotearoa New Zealand through manaakitanga, which is about welcoming, supporting, and honouring the scholars. Requirements
Citizens from certain Pacific countries have two options for tertiary scholarships. Scholars who qualify can choose to study at a New Zealand or a Pacific university. Note: Scholars from Cook Islands have their own scholarships, which are managed by the Cook Islands Ministry of Education and funded by the New Zealand Government. Note: Scholars from Tokelau can only apply for Short Term Training Scholarships.
Option 1: Scholarships to study in New Zealand
Eligible countries: Fiji (only for postgraduate studies), Kiribati, Nauru, New Caledonia, Niue, North Pacific (Federated States of Micronesia, Palau, Marshall Islands), Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu.
Study levels available: Undergraduate Degree (3-4 years), Postgraduate Certificate (6 months), Postgraduate Diploma (1 year), Master’s Degree (1-2 years), PhD (3.5 years).
Expected start dates: We aim for Pacific scholars to start their studies in semester 1 the year after they submit their application.
Option 2: Scholarships to study at a Pacific university
Eligible countries: Kiribati, Niue, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu.
Study levels available: These qualifications can be studied at one of two universities in Fiji: Undergraduate Degree (3-4 years), Postgraduate Certificate (6 months), Postgraduate Diploma (1 year), Master’s Degree (1-2 years), PhD (3.5 years).
Expected start dates: We aim for Pacific scholars to start their studies in semester 1 the year after they submit their application. We only accept applications from citizens of eligible countries.
