3. EPFL Master Excellence Fellowships

To recognize top students starting their Master’s programs, EPFL provides a limited number of excellence fellowships, including guaranteed housing, to those who have excelled academically and stand out in activities outside the classroom, such as sports, arts, community service, or entrepreneurship.  These fellowships, which are worth CHF 10,000 each semester, are open to students who have earned their Bachelor’s degree from EPFL, as well as to those who have started their university studies at a different institution. Their goal is to let students focus on their Master’s program while also giving them the chance to take part in different activities that can help build their career and improve skills in multiple fields. Because of this financial help, the school also wants to help students broaden their views by letting them pick their internships and first jobs based on their scientific interests and goals.

To qualify for this fellowship, students should check the appropriate box on their Master’s application form and include the required application file. Internal candidates who want to stay in the same area of study apply directly to their section. While the academic background is an important factor in reviewing applications, EPFL also looks at the candidates' experiences in different areas like research (such as publications, awards, or fellowships), entrepreneurship (like patent applications or starting a business), or community involvement (such as joining groups, participating in civic activities, or organizing events and festivals). Therefore, any good achievements that make the students' profile better will be considered. To renew the fellowship for the second year of the Master’s program, students need to have earned at least 50 ECTS credits and maintain an overall average of 5.0 out of 6.0.
