The Opportunity  
An exciting opportunity exists to join the Diplomatic Security Division (DSD) and become part of a close-knit team delivering extraordinary results for DFAT’s global network. As a member of the security clearances team, you will be deal with clients and partners inside and outside DFAT to ensure DFAT staff and with other government agencies to ensuring DFAT workers have the necessary security clearances to promote and protect Australia’s international interests to support our security and prosperity. 

This recruitment process will be used to fill current vacancies as well as vacancies which may arise over the coming 18 months across all branches.

Our Ideal Candidate
Working as part of the Security Clearances and Investigations (SCI) team and under the supervision of the Director Security Clearance and Investigations and Assistant Director Client Services, you will be part of a small team that is the main point of interaction between SCI and external clients. You will operate with discretion and provide administrative support to the security vetting team and timely advice on clearances and related procedures to DFAT staff undergoing clearances, other parts of the department, and external agencies. 

You will be highly organised and efficient and able to manage competing priorities under limited direction. You should have excellent people skills and be comfortable engaging with a diverse range of clients of varying backgrounds and seniority. Your knowledge (or the ability to quickly acquire this knowledge) of the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF) and DFAT Security Framework (DSF) will be important in your work in delivering personal security outcomes for the department.

A Certificate IV in Government Security (Personnel Security) and/or experience in personnel security or security risk management is desirable, but not essential. You will have a sound understanding of the role and responsibilities of DFAT. You will have demonstrated the highest standards of integrity and professionalism, and will display a demonstrated capacity to adhere to APS and departmental values.
