These scholarships do not require a separate application process. Once you have completed the supplemental question, part of the application for admission, you will be considered for the appropriate scholarship for the division to which you are applying. Applicants should review the application instructions below for important details about the selection process.
Finalists are notified in mid-February and invited to campus for our Scholarship Weekend in March. The university will pay for finalists’ round-trip expenses within the United States and their expenses in St. Louis during this visit. To remain eligible, finalists must attend these activities. Each committee prepares special activities and events that allow them to get to know the finalists and that allow the finalists to interact with our current scholars, faculty, staff, and each other.
After the weekend, scholarship winners are notified and receive access to their WashU financial assistance award which includes the scholarship value. Scholarships renew for four years as long as students are making satisfactory academic progress toward their degree.
Application instructions from each academic division
As you write your supplemental essay, you should keep in mind that it will be used by the scholarship committees to select awardees. Therefore, you may wish to craft your response within an academic framework.
Following are specific instructions from each academic division regarding the review and selection process and what they look for as they select finalists.
College of Arts & Sciences
No separate application is required. Faculty members will screen your admission application and select a group of semi-finalists. If you are selected as a semi-finalist, the faculty committee may request that you submit additional information to enable the committee to make final decisions.

Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts
No separate application is required for either the Fitzgibbon or the Conway/Proetz, although you must submit a portfolio of your work to be considered. In addition, for best consideration, please use your WashU supplemental essay to discuss how you became interested in Art or Architecture specifically noting any relevant experience or activities.
